Bareilly Ki Barfi Movie Review

BKB is a hooray moment for Hindi cinema. This romcom set in the North Indian town of Bareilly, breaks the shackles of Bollywood’s continued dependence on cardboard cuts and instead introduces you to real people, whose charms are infectious. The writers Nitesh Tiwari (director and writer of the much-acclaimed blockbuster Dangal )and Shreyas Jain have put together a sweet, identifiable crowd-pleaser that excels in the writing, direction, acting and music departments. Rajkummar Rao forms one of the major reasons for the cinegoers to go and see the film. Koimoi

navbharattimes.indiatimes.com

Bareilly Ki Barfi   begins well and the introduction of characters is done in a neat manner. But the film really picks up steam when Pritam enters the narrative. His transformation and the whole process is hilarious and in several ways, is the best portion of the film. Chirag-Bitti’s sequences in the first half aren’t great but make for a nice watch. One sequence which particularly stands out is Bitti celebrating Chirag’s birthday. Post-interval, things look fine initially. The comic and dramatic moments continue and entertain but after a point, the film drags.Bollywood Hungama

Bareilly ki Barfi boasts of a delightful first half, but a weak second half. But some really funny writing and terrific performances by Rajkummar Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana, along with a brilliant supporting cast, add sweetness to the narrative. While it may not get high marks in its screenplay, it definitely is one of the better rom-coms of the year. Bollywood Life

The first half is dominated by Khurrana and Sanon’s blossoming friendship, but it’s the second half that holds the real punch.
The arrival of Rao as the meek, submissive salesman who can turn on the swag and attitude sporadically is a treat to watch. His chemistry with Khurrana who reveals his grey shades is spot-on and the portions where they interact are the highlights of this romantic comedy.Gulf News
