Rukh Hindi Movie Review:

It’s not easy to be courageous enough to challenge the genre-bound filmmaking, especially for a first timer. Director Atanu Mukherjee’s Rukh challenges existing norms and our sensibilities as we get confused in our attempt to fit this suspense drama in a bracket. It might look like a typical whodunit in the beginning, but you realise within minutes that Rukh is more about fighting the inner demons than those outside. Hindustan Times

“Manoj Bajpayee’s film has a secret that’ll kill you from inside.”

First time filmmaker Atanu Mukherjee seems to have been inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s ‘Rashomon’. He uses a similar plot device as the classic, where Dhruv gets to know about the last days of his father’s life from the point of view of several characters that have a stake in the proceedings. And the ploy doesn’t seem wasted or gimmicky either, because you get to the truth along with the protagonist.Times of India

Stance, or ‘rukh’ as the title states, is a recurrent element of the story. Its transience and flexibility is stressed upon given all the universe’s conspiracies take place under the table. FirstPost

Mukherjee doesn’t reveal strong emotions that work better when imagined – like grief, regret and the realization of loss. It’s a refreshing change to see feelings not explained. film companion

The entire story is about the aftermath of Diwakar’s death and Dhruv’s inclusion in the investigation. It also unveils shades of people revolving around Diwakar’s life. Adarsh’s backstory dating back to his school time is also showed mounting your doubts about the arising situations. Koimoi

An air of studied mellowness pervades Atanu Mukherjee’s maiden film – an intense, engaging coming-of-age tale that features Manoj Bajpayee in a stellar role billed as a ‘special appearance’ NDTV

Of all the characters, it’s the young Dhruv (Adarsh Gourav) and how he must deal with the sudden tragedy that anchors us to the story. It’s by following his vision that we peel the various layers of intrigue bit by bit. Thequint

Adarsh Gourav is a compelling actor. He portrays Dhruv’s anguish and anger with flourish, while being obsessed with unearthing the mystery shrouding his father’s death. Those are the only two emotions the script allows him to display. His backstory seems forced, just inserted in a formulaic fashion to build his character.Zeenews
