VIP 2 Lalkar Movie   Review

The first film offered the chance to set up the characters in Raghuvaran’s life the first half and then turn Raghuvaran a mass hero in the second half. Here, Soundarya has to set up the conflict right away, so by the time the first half ends, it seems to have covered the whole trajectory of the first film’s narrative. Times of India

VIP 2 Lalkar is 99 percent tosh, created for the express purpose of getting Dhanush to sing and dance and ‘do comedy’ and fight, all the things a Hero is meant to do.
Given that the leading man is capable of terrific acting, and has done all kinds of interesting, edgy roles, this one should have been a snip. But he flubs it, essentially because of a hopelessly stilted plot and treatment that is all cliché.Indian Express

The second half is repetitive. The screenplay moves at a snail’s pace and is devoid of tension. Hordes of characters crowd the screen without adding much to the plot. Add to that the unnecessary songs and gags, which leave you exasperated. With its sketchy characterisations, wafer-thin plot and haphazard narrative, Dhanush’s second outing is contrived.mid day

The movie has many easter eggs – there are posters of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil & Sultan while Dhanush is crying in a scene. In a scene where Kajol and Dhanush are having drinks, Tujhe Dekha Toh song plays from Kajol’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. In a scene, Kajol refers Dhanush as Singham, a role played by her real life husband Ajay Devgn. Yes! I was that bored to count such minuscule things. Koimoi
